Ownership of the website
In compliance with Article 10 of Law 34/2002 of July 11, on Information Society Services and Electronic Commerce (LSSI-CE), it is hereby stated that the website hilame.info (hereinafter, “the website” or “HILAME”) is owned by:

Purpose of the site: A non-commercial academic research project dedicated to collecting, analyzing, and disseminating prosopographical data concerning individuals documented in the Middle Ages, as well as fostering debate and development in the field of Digital Humanities.
Purpose and Scope of Application
This Legal Notice governs the terms of access, navigation, and use of hilame.info, as well as any liabilities arising from the use of its contents, including texts, databases, images, graphics, code, and all other materials incorporated into the site. Access to or use of the website confers the status of user and implies acceptance of these conditions. Users who do not accept these terms must refrain from using the site.
Intellectual and Industrial Property
The contents of the website are owned by HILAME or by the authors and collaborators
involved in the project, unless otherwise indicated.
The materials published on hilame.info are licensed under the Creative
Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (CC BY-
NC-SA 4.0), unless expressly stated otherwise. Under this license, materials may be
shared and adapted freely, provided that:
• The original authorship is acknowledged and the source “HILAME
(hilame.info)” is cited;
• The materials are not used for commercial purposes;
• Any derivative works are distributed under the same license.
Logos, trademarks, and institutional names (for example, UPV/EHU or other
collaborating entities) are protected under applicable industrial property legislation and
are not covered by the Creative Commons license.
What does this mean?
You may use, copy, distribute, and adapt our content online as long as you acknowledge
the source, do not use it for commercial purposes, and apply the same license. Any
other use is prohibited without the express written consent of the project directors. For

Why do we use this license?
HILAME offers open-access resources for historical research. We publish data,
methodologies, tools, and prototypes online because we aim to contribute to the freely
shared knowledge being developed on the web. In creating this project, we have drawn
on the work of many predecessors, to whom we are deeply grateful. The HILAME logo,
graphic applications, and original illustrations may also be used under the CC BY-NC-
SA 4.0 license.
We invite you to consider HILAME a common good: a resource to be used,
shared, and disseminated through your own platforms whenever it may be of interest.
Exceptions to this License
The CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license does not apply to third-party works used in HILAME,
such as manuscript editions, documentary repertories, or texts and images included in
our public communication about related projects or events. These materials may not be
reproduced, distributed, transformed, or published without the express permission of
their authors.
The software used in developing HILAME is written in HTML and PHP, both
open-source under the GNU GPL license. We currently use a WordPress CMS and a
custom-built application for managing prosopographical data. These free-software
components and HILAME-specific applications are the property of the research group
Societies, Processes, Cultures (8th–18th Centuries) of the Basque University System,
without prejudice to the moral rights of the designers and developers involved (see
Equipo).
Terms of Use
Users agree to use hilame.info in accordance with the law, good faith, public order, and
these terms. The following actions are prohibited:
• Submitting false, inaccurate, or incomplete information
• Altering, damaging, or disrupting the site’s computer systems
• Using the contents for unlawful purposes or for purposes incompatible with the
academic nature of the Project
The site owner reserves the right to deny or withdraw access from users who fail
to comply with these conditions.
Personal Data Protection
Data controller: University of the Basque Country / Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea
(UPV/EHU)
Purpose: To manage inquiries, collaborations, or communications related to the HILAME project, and to publish or preserve historical prosopographical data in fulfillment of its research objectives.
Legal basis: Tasks carried out in the public interest and for scientific or historical research purposes (Art. 6.1(e) and 9.2(j) GDPR).
Rights: Data subjects may exercise their rights of access, rectification, erasure,
restriction, objection, and portability before the UPV/EHU (dpd@ehu.eus), indicating “HILAME Data Protection” in the subject line.
Claims: Data subjects may file a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency
(www.aepd.es).
Personal data collected through forms or emails will be processed confidentially and
will not be shared with third parties except where legally required or technically
necessary for service maintenance.
Disclaimer
HILAME is not responsible for:
• Temporary unavailability of the site due to technical issues or maintenance
• Errors or omissions in the content, or for the use made of the published
information
• Contents managed by third-party sites linked from the website
The site owner may modify or update the contents without prior notice, while always seeking to ensure the reliability and scientific quality of the information provided.

The website may include links to external sites or resources. These are provided for informational purposes only. HILAME does not control or endorse external content and assumes no responsibility for its use.

Applicable Law and Jurisdiction
This Legal Notice is governed by Spanish law. For any dispute arising from access to or
use of the website, the parties submit to the jurisdiction of the Courts and Tribunals of
Bilbao (Bizkaia), unless otherwise required by applicable regulations.
